The eye's corner catches it Where most aren't looking
The only sounds are heard Through queer ears
As people shout creaky protests From steel pipe vocal chords

She walks past the garden with the smiling dwarf and past the small patch of trees at the far end of her backyard. She passes trees and flowers. She passes twigs and leaves, just turning brown and crumpled from the beginning of autumn. Bored with the muted browns and darkness of the stalks and limbs of the trees, she continues out to the road near her house.
She blinks, emerging from the brush into a puddle of light from the street light above her. The road is
